SURGICAL TOOTH EXTRACTION

  • Applying surgical tooth extraction

It is always preceded by panoramic radiography. Tooth extraction is always done under anaesthesia, which means local anaesthesia most of the time, that is injection. At Dent Art Klinik, you may request full anaesthesia. This is recommended for more complicated and time-consuming interventions. Tooth extraction is the last option we use at our clinic, only when all other solutions to save the tooth would fail. Surgical tooth extraction is one of the most frequent intervention in oral surgery, performed under anaesthesia. It becomes necessary when the tooth cannot be removed by simple extraction. The treatment is performed for outpatients in local anaesthesia..

When do we use surgical tooth extraction?

    1. if the crown part of the tooth is severely damaged
    2. if the tooth only has its roots remaining and extraction by pliers is not possible
    3. when on the dental X-ray we see a root that is strongly divergent or crooked
    4. if a tooth is not developed (has not erupted). This usually occurs with wisdom teeth or incisors.
    5. if the facial cavity is very close to the dental root and the exposure of the cavity is expected

When do we need to perform tooth extraction?

    • in dental illnesses involving inflammation of extended areas or great pain, when there is no other solution
    • if the neighbouring tissues and other teeth need to be protected from the extended inflammation
    • if there is no pain but the chipped or weakened tooth is not suitable for further tooth replacement
    • fortunately, often teeth that have been deemed hopeless by the patient can still be saved

    Removing wisdom teeth?

A special case of tooth extraction is the removal of wisdom teeth. Often there is not enough space for the eruption of wisdom teeth, and a painful, swollen periodontal pocket develops next to these teeth. Decay in such teeth is also more frequent, and they might even push all other preceding teeth, creating irregularities and jamming.

Facial swelling, restricted mouth opening or swallowing, pain, and low fever may occur after the surgery, but these symptoms should subside within 3-4 days. The wound will be healed in one week from the surgery. In case stitches are put in place after the tooth extraction, their removal should take place in a week.
