REMOVABLE TOOTH REPLACEMENTS

  • In case of a partial plate denture, the mouth still has some teeth that greatly increase the stability of the dentures. Their advantage is that the replacement is thin, the size of the base plate may be reduced, and therefore getting used to happens more quickly and is less disturbing for the sense of taste. Dentures attach to permanent teeth with buckles or so-called fine mechanics fixing applications. The latter solution provides a nice appearance and great precision.

    Dentures – Artificial dentures

Denture are manufactured and personalized by an imprint taken in the dental technology lab and through several fitting sessions. Its base material is a gingiva-coloured plastic that rests on the gums. The upper denture partially or fully covers the palate, while the lower denture has a shape of a horseshoe. The denture frame may also contain a metal mesh. Teeth are usually made of plastic and are suited to match the colour of natural teeth, which is important primarily in partial dentures.

    Removable full dentures

Full dentures are prepared for the toothless mouth. Full dentures replace all teeth in the upper or lower jaw. It is used when, for any reason, restoration may not be solved otherwise. Its fixed placement is ensured by the anatomy of the jawbones, as well as the sucking effect of the palate, the chewing pressure, and also gravity in case of the mandible. Disadvantageous anatomy of the mandible, present in many patients, may prevent a perfectly stable denture, but in such cases as few as two implants will help to stabilize the denture. The material used for the full plate tooth replacement is acrylate.

    Taking care of removable dentures

Remove dentures for cleaning. Use a toothbrush (possibly with hard bristle) and tooth paste, and do not forget the cleansing solution either to loosen plaque and disinfect dentures. You may need to use a different cleansing solution for metal-based dentures. Please note that soaking dentures in a glass of liquid all night, so often depicted in movies and jokes, is a bad idea because in the long run, the solution may damage fixing elements and reduce product lifespan. Always wear the dentures except for the few minutes they are removed for cleaning, or possibly for repairs or lining.

These are needed when the replacement of missing teeth cannot be done by a fixed dental structure. Nowadays even removable dentures are hardly noticeable and are comfortable, but they need some getting used to that may take up days, or weeks for more sensitive patients.

    Types of removable replacements are:

    • partial metal plate denture
    • full plastic denture
    • partial plastic denture

    Plated replacements:
Removable replacement is when the denture is attached to the permanent teeth and the bone foundation of the mucous and can be detached easily by the patient. Removable metal plated denture can be partial or full, depending on the number of teeth still in the mouth. Full removable plate dentures are made for mouths without any teeth. As far as fixing goes, the anatomy of the upper jawbone and the sucking effect of the palate create favourable circumstances for the denture to stay in place. However, the often disadvantageous anatomy of the lower teeth it may be difficult to acquire stability for a lower denture. The material of the replacement is a combination of metal and plastic; therefore, they are called metal plate dentures in the everyday use of the term. With regard to wear times we can differentiate between permanent and temporal dentures. A temporal denture is one worn until the permanent dentures are ready, and have several advantages: they facilitate wound healing, reduce the time needed for getting used to dentures, and enhance appearance.
